Year 2

This half term in Year 2 our topic is:

Happy Holidays!

The year 2 topic this half term is Happy Holidays. This is a geography topic where we will be finding out about different types of holidays, different holiday locations, physical and human features of those locations as well as the climate. We will be linking this to English by looking at how we would write an advert to encourage someone to go to a location of our choice.

In English, we will be using the text The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch as a text to support the writing of a setting description and a retell and we will write a persuasive advert for a holiday location we have been learning about in our topic. In reading, we will be sharing stories about holidays and answering questions to show our understanding of what we have read.

In maths, we will be learning how to tell the time, o clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We will then progress onto the 5 minute intervals and teach the children to tell the time to each 5 minute. We are also going to explore capacity, weight and length.

We will link our topic to Design Technology where we will design, make and evaluate a beach bag.

In PSHE, we will look at where money comes from and know  how and why money is raised for charity.

In RE, we will be looking at special and sacred times and understanding the difference in a variety of religions.

In computing, we will be looking at how we can program robots to carry out simple instructions as well as debugging programs.

In Science, we will be looking at living things and their habitats. Children will understand the difference between a habitat and a micro habitat.
