Year 6 (UKS2)
Welcome to the Year 6 Website Page
This half term our topic is:
Raging Rivers
During our English lessons, we will be creating persuasive leaflets for our families in the hope to encourage them to take us on a trip of our lifetime… to visit a wonderful river. We will then move onto creating a suspense narrative based on the short animation – Francis. We will also be studying a range of texts based on rivers and in our reading sessions, we will be consolidating our reading skills understanding as well as extending them further to ensure we are all confident and passionate readers,
In Maths, we will be focusing on algebra, learning how to calculate one and two step equations. Once we have mastered algebra, we will move on to look at perimeter and area of triangles and parallelograms. We will build on previous learning by recapping our previous learning and developing our skills by focusing on the area of triangles. Lastly, we will explore statistics, with a focus on interpreting and drawing graphs.
During our topic sessions, we will develop our understanding of Rivers (locally and around the world). We will think about their key features and why they are essential. We will then think about the uses of rivers in today’s society as well as in the past. We will also be getting creative in our Design and Technology sessions as we will be designing, creating and evaluating our very own bridges.
PE Days:
6A – Wednesday and Friday
6B – Wednesday and Friday
6C – Tuesday and Wednesday
Home learning:
We expect children to read at home daily and they will receive Dojos for each time they read. In Year 6, it is really important that they start to read for longer periods of time to build up reading stamina.
Homework is handed out each week and children are asked to complete this in their homework books and return to the class teacher weekly. Dojo's are awarded for all homework completed.
