Year 6 (UKS2)
Welcome to the Year 6 Website Page
This half term our topic is:
World War II
During our World War II topic, we will learn all about the key dates and events associated with the war. As part of this we will research key leaders involved in the war as well as the countries they led. We will unpick the road to war and think about how this links to the end of World War I. Throughout our topic, the children will be immersed in the history, geography and ethical debates of World War II. Our reading and writing lessons will also be based on our theme, as we strive to fully immerse the children into their topic. We will be planning and writing a setting description based on the evacuation of children form London during the Blitz and a newspaper article to report a key event in the Blitz.
In maths, we will be recapping, consolidating and extending our understanding of place value and the four main operations during our fluency lessons. Our main unit of work in maths will be based on developing our fractions knowledge. In science, we will be exploring the topic of light and we will think about how light travels, the process of reflection and reflation and the prism of the colour of light.
We are going to have another wonderful half term developing our understanding of war – we can’t wait to share our wonderful learning with you.
6A – Wednesday and Friday
6B – Wednesday and Friday
6C – Tuesday and Wednesday
We expect children to read at home daily and they will receive Dojos for each time they read. In Year 6, it is really important that they start to read for longer periods of time to build up reading stamina.
Homework is handed out each week and children are asked to complete this in their homework books and return to the class teacher weekly. Dojo's are awarded for all homework completed.
Here you will find links to 'What we are learning about' with more details about the year 6 curriculum this half term. You will also find some additional home learning tasks to complete throughout the year, or if you are unable to attend school for any reason.
