Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
Throughout everything that we do, the 4 overarching principles of the EYFS shape our practice in the EYFS at Lakeside:
1. every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
2. children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
3. children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
4. importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates
We recognise that the 7 areas of learning and development in the EYFS must shape learning and are all equally important and inter-connected.
We have a strong focus on the Prime Areas of Learning: Communication & Language, Personal, Social, Emotional and Physical development; 3 areas which are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.
The 4 specific areas of learning give children opportunity to embed and deepen their prime area development and skills. These specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive arts and design.
We have mapped the curriculum objectives for nursery and reception to ensure a braod and balanced curriculum in our EYFS. We take into account children's interests and fascinations and adapt our planning to suit these.
